Police Charge Matawan Pair with Main Street Armed Robbery

A 17-year-old and a 35-year-old are accused of robbing a 60-year-old Matawan man.

Two Matawan residents were arrested less than 24 hours after the armed robbery of a 60-year-old man on Main Street, according to Lt. Ben Smith.

A 17-year-old male resident was arrested by police and charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to Smith. He was released into his parents' custody.

Mark Barber, a 35-year-old resident of Miriam Drive, was also arrested, Smith said. Barber was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a weapon.

Bail for Barber was set at $285,000 with no option to post 10 percent of the bond.

Matawan Detectives Steven Sakowski and Joseph Lovallo recovered the handgun used during the robbery, Smith said.
