WINTER BLUE DAYS FOR BIRDS

Winter Blue Days affect our companion avian friends exactly in the same way grey sky's affect our physical and mental health. Getting the right amount of the Sun light is something they need to maintain good color, calcium absorption, vitamin D, dander and appetite. some people place their pets near or by a window to try to get these benefits for their beloved birds, when in truth the only thing they get is illumination. The health benefits will not penetrate nor pass through glass, so placing them there allows them to see outside only, but if it's grey, dark, or storming it's a "blue day". The "fix" is easy. Birds require light eight hours a day in the 5500K range normal household Kelvin range is 2400K, so if you place a Full Spectrum bulb near them they will receive the required amount of proper beneficial light assuring them of the daily and needed amount of life lengthening light. Anyone wishing more information as to where to purchase the correct light bulbs contact us at belfordbirds@yahoo.com  Remember that our feathered friends outside need a good food source year round. Enjoy watching and listening to their wonderful sounds by providing a inexpensive bird mix. Till next week Happy Birding, Walt
