COMPATABLE BIRDS FOR A COMMUNITY AVAIRY

I was asked the other day which small birds could be kept in a community aviary the a local hospital is contemplating. Small birds can be housed together if the aviary is spacious enough to allow for a certain amount of natural space. I was informed that they plan on having a 5x4x6 foot screen aviary built for the day room. This size aviary is ideal for housing up to forty mixed finch varieties, a canary, and a couple of Rosey Bourke's. The Rosey's are a gentle hook-bill parakeet that will thrive in a nice aviary along with Lady Gouldian's, Cordon Bleu, Fire Finch, Lavenders Finch, and Society Finch just to mention a few. The secret is to make sure that you have only one pair of most species so as to not create breeding hostility or too much male to male confrontation the is true of females. providing enough feeding stations and fresh water, good ventilation and full spectrum 5500K of light for eight to twelve hours per day. Any one with question can reach us at Bird lover's Paradise 32 main St. Matawan. Till next week happy birding.
