Participating in the Pinewood Derby teaches scouts about good sportsmanship and following directions, Robert Kee, Cub Scout Pack 66 Cubmaster, explained.

"It's also a good activity to work with your parents on or with your grandparents, or an uncle or an aunt," he said to the scouts.

There is a first, second and third place trophy for each age group that races, Kee explained. There will also be four additional awards for the most original car, most patriotic car, most Scout-like car and the best paint job.

The Tiger Cub Scouts have been working hard on building their cars and cannot wait to see their cars cross the finish line at their very first derby.

"To see my car win," Jack shouted when asked what he looked forward to most.

Other scouts said they were excited to meet Aberdeen Mayor Fred Tagliarini and Matawan Mayor Paul Buccellato at the derby.
