Community Corner

Not oil and water: families and businesses come together in celebration

Aberdeen, NJ (July 6, 2013) – Friday night I watched our community, families and businesses, come together for a fabulous night of wholesome fun. Quality First Basement Systems sponsored the Aberdeen fireworks. There was music: a town Harlem shake, mothers dancing with sons, daughters with their dads.   Classmates running around, playing soccer and kickball and forging new friendships.   Our Town Council was on hand, supporting the generous donation of Quality First Basements along with police and fire departments from Aberdeen and Keyport.  Quality First Basements has just relocated their business from Perth Amboy to Aberdeen; we welcome them and appreciate their support.   As I begin my campaign I have been told repeatedly that Democrats cannot work with business owners, that it is like oil and water.   Nothing could be farther from the truth and Friday night's festivities proved it.  Aberdeen has actually demonstrated this on many occasions.  Aberdeen Day, for example, provides a wonderful opportunity for businesses to advertise and showcase their wares and services, while supporting a wonderful family experience.
Friday night was yet another wonderful example of how important business is to a community and vice versa.   I witnessed our town come together to just have fun while celebrating our country's independence.  My husband and I chose Aberdeen as the place to raise our children.  Last night's festivities further cemented my long held belief that communities thrive when families, individuals and businesses, small and large, come together in support of one another.
