Matawan Huskies 11u North Brunswick Fall Baseball Classic Champions!!

The Matawan Huskies 11u Travel Baseball team competed Oct 4th-6th in the North Brunswick Fall Baseball Classic tournament this past weekend.
The quest for the championship started on Friday nite with John Beukers on the mound, hurling a 6 inning 1-0 no hitter shutout against a tough East Brunswick Bears squad in game 1. With a key bunt single by Dylan Nuygen and his lightning speed, Matawan was able to get him home after him stealing both second and third base.
Game 2 the bats of Matawan came alive with
bombs from Chris Dietrich(2 triples) Colin Meany, Vincent Guarino, Jack Debold and Dylan Nuygen
to defeat an unprepared Berkeley Heights team 21-9. Solid pitching by variuos pitchers, Colin Meany, Jack Debold, Vincent Guarino and Dylan Nuygen helped provide the win.

In the semi-finals the Huskies were faced with a different more determined Berkeley Heights team. Falling behind in the early beggining inwhich looked to be an upset for Berkeley Heights the Huskies rose from the ashes and fought back from behind and over came adversity winning 9-5 and making it to the Championship match against East Brunswick. Jackson Aguilar took the hill to start and Chris Dietrich and Nico Clark closed it out.
In the finals Matawan called upon their ace John Buekers hoping for a repeat performance from game 1. Having difficulty with the location of the umpires strike zone and some key hits by the East Brunswick Bears going ahead 3-0 the Huskies found themselves in what would once again have to be a come from behind victory. Battling back within 1 the Bears stayed strong going up 4-2 cheering and determined to defeat the Huskies. But that didn't happen as John Beukers pitching exceeded all expectations getting better as the innings went on.The Huskies bats awoke as key hits from Nico Clark, John Beukers, Mark Kawka, Darin Teixeira and Chris Dietrich along with a key bunt by Vincent Guarino lead the charge to an 8-4 lead for the Huskies. Defensive plays by Nico Clark and a diving backhanded catch by Chris Gersbeck help keep the Bears off the base paths allowing the Huskies and John Buekers capture the championship trophy for the Matawn Huskies team.
