FedEx Volunteers Support United Way in Jersey Shore Rebuilding

FedEx team members made a special delivery today to one Jersey Shore town recovering from Super Storm Sandy. FedEx joined forces with the United Way of Essex and West Hudson in Union Beach, N.J., to help rebuild several homes devastated by last October’s storm. Undeterred by rainy weather, the group assembled around 8:30 a.m. to help gut and rebuild several homes in close proximity to the Union Hose Fire Company on Florence Avenue.

The volunteer event was organized as part of the ninth annual FedEx Cares Week, during which team members around the globe are giving back to their local communities through service projects.

With its major operational and employee presence in New Jersey, FedEx team members were among the first to mobilize in response to the hurricane’s aftermath. They managed FedEx deliveries of disaster-relief supplies and transport of electronic generators to power critical operations.

Since the storm, local team members have continued to support long-term rebuilding efforts that help many of their neighbors, co-workers, friends and families. With a FedEx donation of more than $1.5 million of in-kind and monetary donations to help victims, local FedEx team members have volunteered to support key community needs throughout the region, including working with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and donating more than 4,000 books to public schools where the students were affected and disrupted by the disaster.
