Boy Scout Troop 66 Volunteers at Temple Shalom Garden

Members of Boy Scout Troop 66 of Matawan were volunteer workers at the Temple Shalom community garden recently. Their tasks included helping to install wire fencing to protect the garden from small animals. The troop has also helped out in the garden in the past on other projects.

Gan Tikvah, the Garden of Hope, provides donations of vegetables to the Matawan United Methodist Church food pantry during the summer. It was started five years ago by Lenore Robinson, chairperson of Temple Shalom’s Social Action committee.

The garden is completely organic and produces crops including lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and zuchinni.  Volunteers of all ages are always welcome to work in the garden. For more information contact Lenore Robinson at paullenrob@verizon.net or 732-264-2458.

Troop 66, founded in 1957, provides an active year round outdoor program for boys in 5th grade and above.  The troop gives back to the local community by conducting food drives, participating in civic events, volunteering at municipal events and completing Eagle projects to assist local organizations and clubs.

Troop 66 meets weekly on Wednesday evenings during the School year from 7:30-9:00pm at the Matawan United Methodist Church, at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Church Street in Matawan.
