Wednesday Early Closures at Matawan-Aberdeen Library Begin

Some fines have increased in the new year

Budget cuts at the Matawan-Aberdeen Library mean some changes at the institution, including reduced hours on Wednesdays.

Jan. 8 marks the start of the schedule change, as the library now will close at 6 p.m. Wednesdays going forward.

In an additional effort to save money, the library's 5 cent late fines will increase to 10 cents and the 10 cent fines will rise to 20 cents, according to a statement issued by the library. Fines for Rapid Reads remain 25 cents and DVD fines remain $1.

"For several years now, we have had to tighten up our belt, cut back where we can, while always trying to maintain excellent service and resources for our patrons," writes director Kimberly Paone on her library blog. "Unfortunately, this year, the cuts (on top of previous years' cuts) were too deep, and we've had to take more drastic measures."

Anyone with questions or interest in making a donation to the library is asked to contact Paone at kpaone@lmxac.org or 732-583-9100.
