Police: Man Arrested During Lloyd Road Burglary Believed to be Behind String of Break-Ins
A month-long investigation led to the arrest of Bradley Beach man and an alleged accomplice
A Bradley Beach man and a Howell woman were arrested Tuesday during the commission of a residential burglary in Aberdeen Township, Wall Township Lt. Walter Pomphrey said.
The arrests of Charles Hanisch, 44, of Bradley Beach, and Alice Anderson, 50, of Howell, were the result of a month-long investigation involving Wall police and investigators from Ocean Township and Aberdeen, Pomphrey said.
In mid-April, Hanisch was stopped in his 1997 blue Ford Econoline work van by Wall Patrolman Adam Cox. A van fitting this description was seen at several of the daytime burglaries in five Monmouth County towns over the past two months, Pomphrey said.
Wall detectives periodically checked up on Hanisch, with assistance from Bradley Beach and the Ocean Township Police Departments, Pomphrey said.
On Tuesday police followed Hanisch and a woman into Aberdeen, where he was parked in the driveway of a Lloyd Road home. The front door of the home was forced open and Hanisch was arrested while he was carrying a television to the front door, Pomphrey said.
Anderson, Hanisch's accomplice, was hiding in a bedroom closet, Pomphrey said.
The pair were taken to Aberdeen police department and charged with one count each of third degree burgalry, third degree theft and third degree criminal mischief. Bail was set at $82,500 each, Pomphrey said.
Both were then given over to Wall police where Hanisch was additionally charged with one count of burglary and theft stemming from a residential burglary in Wall on April 18 and an additional count of criminal attempt to commit burglary. Bail was set at $45,000. Anderson faced no additional charges, Pomphrey said.
Additional charges are forthcoming, Pomphrey said.
