Preliminary Plans for Islamic Cemetery Pass Through Marlboro Council
Both the Zoning Board and Town Council have approved site variances for an Islamic Cemetery in Morganville.
Plans to construct an Islamic Cemetery in the Morganville section of town are almost underway, as site variances for the area were approved by both the Marlboro Zoning Board and the Town Council.
Tiba Associates, representing the Monmouth County Islamic Society, approached the planning board earlier this year asking for two site variances.

One variance would re-zone the property and make a cemetery legal in the area, another maintained a residents on the property for the caretaker. The zoning board approved both variances in April.
The site in question is located on Spring Valley Road in Morganville, was previously listed on Zillow.com for sale.
According to The News Transcript, representatives of Tiba and the Islamic Society told the zoning board in April that a nearby Islamic cemetery in Millstone was almost full and the society was looking for new space.
Representatives said specific religious cemeteries are important to the ceremony and the belief system.
Last week, the Marlboro Town Council further approved the variances to establish a cemetery on the property. The decision was unanimous.
