New Season Means New Group for Matawan Huskies Football

Huskies will play in North Jersey section 2 Group III

The 2012 season will be a year of new competition for the Matawan Regional High School football team.

According to a story on NJ.com, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) voted to add an additional group to the previously existing four groups, which allows 32 more teams into the playoffs.

With the addition of Group V, the Matawan Huskies will no longer be a part of Central Jersey Group II. Instead, they will now find themselves in North Jersey Section II Group III.

The Huskies will face some familiar faces in the new North Jersey Section II Group III, including Raritan. The group also includes Chatham, Cliffside Park, Cranford, Fort Lee, Gov. Livingston, Newark West Side, Palisades Park/Leonia, Parsippany, Parsippany Hills, Raritan, Somerville, South Plainfield, Summit, and Voorhees.

The Huskies will no longer be in the same group as Rumson-Fair Haven, Red Bank, and Holmdel.
