Man Facing Charges of Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer in Keyport

A Monmouth County grand jury handed up the indictment Jan. 17.

A Monmouth County grand jury voted to indict a Belmar man on charges he allegedly assaulted a police officer in Keyport.

Police say Richard Fiducia, 57, assaulted an on-duty police officer in Keyport on Sept. 21, 2012. According to the indictment, Fiducia allegedly, "[caused] injury recklessly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life."

Fiducia was indicted on two counts of second degree aggravated assault.

An indictment does not indicate a conviction, only that a jury voted there was enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
