Man Dies After Being Struck by Train Near Aberdeen-Matawan Station
He was transported to the hospital after the incident
A man was struck by a train near the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station at about 10:30 Saturday night, according to NJ TRANSIT Spokeswoman Courtney Carroll.
The initial investigation shows the man went around the crossing gates on Atlantic Avenue as North Jersey Coast Line train 7277, en route to Long Branch, entered the station, Carroll said.
The adult victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to Carroll. He succumbed to his injuries overnight.
Information on the identity of the victim was not yet available.
Patch will update this article as more information becomes available.

its amazing how foolish people can be, NJT or the DOT recently placed a portable 10 x 10 lighted road sign stating obey the gates. Maybe he was unable to read English!!

Sadly it may have been suicide. I know nothing about this particular case but frequently that is what happens.

The best thing would be to eliminate that crossing and run a fence across it. Vehicle traffic would go around to Main Street and passengers would go over the top like they do at South Amboy. These track crossings are a daily occurence. What percentage of these little adventures are going to be unsuccessful and how many of them ending badly can the public tolerate? Rush hours are a nightmare for vehicles trying to cross the tracks, with people wandering aimlessly into the roadway with a sense of entitlement as they head to the parking lots on the other side. It's an act of God that people aren't struck once a week or even daily.

Very true it may have been a suiccde atempt but people are dumb. I have seen so many of the commuters and others walk around the gate when the train is coming and already at the station. Then what when someone gets hurt it is njt,s fault I think not. Start obeying the rules. Another thing by directing the traffic to main street you will have. More auto accidents people can not drive there for shit. I have seen south amboy and that is a great set up however they did not dirrect all the traffic else where and still made a great change. People really need to stay off the tracks they are not for walking they are for trains to transport us from a to b. I have a friend who was hit and killed by a njt train so I dont take this lightly. I can honestly say it bothers me til this day. Dont get me wrong the walk over head we should have as far as dirrecting traffic to one road would be a nightmare beyond beleif. My parents have been residents of Matawan/Aberdeen since my day was four and since my mom for age 19. I myself have lived there 33 Years and honored to say I would be proud to raise my son there if he were with us. For a small town its one of the best towns.

It was clearly suicide. People go across the tracks when the lights are flashing and the gates are down but you cannot even hear the train. People do not try to run in front of a train that is visible.
