Man Allegedly Failed to Register as Sex Offender in Aberdeen, Neptune

A man was indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges he allegedly failed to register with local police.

A Monmouth County grand jury voted to indict Wayne Hegel, 33, on charges he failed to register as a convicted sex offender with local police, according to court documents. The indictment lists his last known address as an apartment complex in Neptune.

Police say that between the dates of Dec. 15, 2012 and Jan. 18 Hegel did not report to police in Aberdeen and Neptune about a change in address.

According to the indictment, Hegel was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child in October 2000.

An indictment does not indicate a conviction, only that a grand jury found there was enough evidence to proceed with a trial.

Why do so many former offenders fail to register? Why don't they want us to know what they did, where they live and work, and what kind of car they drive? Now the tax payer is going to have to pay to incarcerate this man because he is afraid of a little harassment.
