Lloyd Road Principal Resigns

The board voted to accept his resignation at their June 11 meeting

Lloyd Road School principal Luigi Laugelli will part ways with the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District in August.

Laugelli was the principal at the upper elementary school for one academic year after former principal Patricia O'Keefe retired in June of 2011. He handed in his letter of resignation last week citing "personal reasons", according to Superintendent David Healy.

Healy denied rumors that Laugelli had been asked to resign after it came to light during the May 21 Board of Education meeting that the Owleus Anti-Bullying Program, a program designed to teach children how to understand bullying and how to stand up to it, was never rolled out at Lloyd Road School.

"He was not asked to resign and he's been offered a number of positions," Healy said after the June 11 board meeting. "I can't speculate why he chose to resign. It was his reason."

Laugelli's resignation will take effect on Aug. 4. An assistant principal was recently hired for Lloyd Road, however no one has been selected for principal of the school, Healy said.

Don't you just love how Healy continues to lie? First, he said Blackmore was not forced to resign which was a lie. Now he says they didn't force this guy out.

WEell, if this is the truth(which we all know it isnt) maybe we should take a really close look at why all our principlas are leaving!

Either way it isnt good is it?

"I can't speculate why he chose to resign. It was his reason." ????? How about you ask him since you're his friend and gave him the job. What is our BOE doing these days??? I'm glad to see him go. He screamed at kids like a bully. My wife heard it first hand. He's lucky I wasn't there or you would be reading about me in police beat. No wonder he was against the anti-bullying program and had the teachers lie! What a joke this has become. Too bad.

I think Healy acts a bit too erratic. The schools in general have been making some progress in the last two years according to the NJ report cards in the area of math. And I'm hoping the new reading program, if implemented properly by the administration and taught properly by the teachers, has the same result. I believe these policies were put into place before Mr Healy came to the district, and I'm just hoping he doesn't do anything to stop the progress from continuing.

Furthermore, I also believe Mr. Blackmore, an excellent principal was forced to resign. My children went through 4 principals at the middle school, and in my opinion, Mr. Blackmore was the only principal to do the job properly.

Joel,
The teachers never lied. They told the truth at the May BOE meeting.

You were al lucky to have him! We had him for only 2 years at Lincroft and he was the best of the best!

Why? Could it be that his predecessor was not successful or well liked? Maybe Lincroft didn't have a good frame of reference.

Totally best of the best. Maybe you all should look at others in the school/ district before you point fingers @ the principal. No AYP before he started...maybe the staff needs to be shaken up!

No Ayp after he started either. No bullying program started after the teachers kept asking for it's implementation. He shook the school up for sure. Transferred nearly a third of the teachers- including swapping one with a kindergarten teacher involuntarily. Got rid of the guidance counselor who dealt with all the parental complaints about him. The teachers WELCOMED him with open arms but things went south in a heartbeat. He cared more about "purging and painting" than dealing with the discipline complaints from parents, bus drivers, lunch aides, and staff. Hanging out with a few "favorites" also helped to create an unpleasant climate. It didn't help him that his groupies from Lincroft kept showing up with gifts for the god while we were in crisis either. I hope that in his next job he learns to move more slowly, to assess the climate of the building ( people and procedures), to wait a full year without calling his new district a "ghetto" and throwing everything meaningful in the garbage. Mr. Laugelli had the support of the staff and parents but failed them. Tell me, if he gets a job in Mahwah, will you follow him there? And what are you doing for your new principal? Are you making him/ her feel as welcome or are you always comparing him/ her to Mr. Laugelli?

Maybe you should get information about the staff before making such a comment. I spend a great deal of time with them and have done so for the past 4 years. Staff is totally professional. No need to shake them up. Perhaps your former principal is the one who needs shaking up.

Shaken up is what the kids were! Kiki sounds like one of his "pets" not a parent or staff member at Lloyd Rd. This guy was a bully(when he came out of his office) , just ask the kid he threw water at! Everyone knew he was Healy's wonderboy from Middletown and he got away with things no school employee should. He did nothing for kids who wre bullied because he is a bully. Worst of the worst.

Very true. Maybe Kiki and Mary have an explanation for this since they think he is the best of the best.

I don't know about the former Lloyd Road principal, since my kids have already finished with grades 4 & 5, but I know the same teachers are still there. I've seen many of them in the past, protesting new initiatives and changes in the district, and believe me, they were not professional! I would even say, there are some, not all, but some, teachers and administrators that I would consider to be bullies throughout all the schools in the district. I think it is very sad and disheartening to the good teachers and administrators, that this profession has been so marred by those who really shouldn't be in the education field.

Not surprised

On the front page of the Link- it looks like Lloyd Road now lost their not-yet Assistant Principal too. http://thelinknews.net/ Doesn't it alarm ANYONE that administrators are willing to take jobs in districts that pay less (MARSD has one of the highest paying administrative guide in the county) just to avoid working here? AND that the Board has it on this upcoming Monday night's agenda that they are 'terminating his employement'? Again, covering up the truth- they found out he was board approved elsewhere and 'terminated' him publicly to save face.
