Gates Stuck Down at Atlantic Avenue Rail Crossing Near Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station

Drivers are asked to avoid the area until the gates are repaired.

The gates at the Atlantic Avenue rail crossing near the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station are stuck in the down position, according to Matawan Lt. Ben Smith.

NJ TRANSIT Police are on their way to the scene, Smith said.

For safety reasons, traffic will not be permitted to cross the tracks until the gates are repaired. Drivers are asked to take an alternative route.

What about pedestrian crossings? Lots of folks park on the one side and have to cross to get the inbound trains in the morning.

Maybe a little common sense could help- look left - then look right- if you hear a train whistle then don't cross!! I learned that when I was 5

Great scolding, but bad advice, Taryn. Too many people have used that common sense and been killed or seriously injured crossing NJT tracks. Listening for a train is absolutely horrendous advice. Glad you survived childhood.
