Fight Hunger: Donate Food at Aberdeen Town Hall Throughout September
As part of Hunger Action Month, Aberdeen will collect food donations to benefit local food pantries
The following is a message from Aberdeen Township:
In conjunction with Hunger Action Month, which takes place this September, Aberdeen Township is conducting a food drive to benefit local food pantries that serve residents of Aberdeen and surrounding communities.
Donations of non-perishable items in cans, cardboard containers or cellophane-wrapped packaging can be dropped off in the lobby of the Aberdeen Township Municipal Building in the designated food collection bins between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., seven days a week. Items can also be dropped off at the George Hausmann Senior Center and at Home Away from Home Academy. Donors are asked to not bring items in glass jars or perishables.
The items collected in Aberdeen will be donated to the food pantries at Matawan United Methodist Church, St. Joseph-St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank in Keyport and St. Benedict Catholic Church-St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank in Holmdel.
In conjunction with the food drive, September 6 was designated National Wear Orange Day. Aberdeen joined other municipalities by encouraging the wearing of orange on that day and by placing orange ribbons around trees to remind residents of the food drive and the problem of hunger in the community. Aberdeen municipal employees who donate food items will be allowed to wear orange shirts donated by the township’s P.B.A every Thursday of the month.
“More than 127,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties receive food through the efforts of the Food Bank,” said Deputy Mayor Margaret Montone. “These include the disabled, veterans and working-poor families in crisis. They are our neighbors, friends and family members. We are asking residents of Aberdeen Township to take a few minutes and drop-off a donation to this most worthwhile effort.”
The Aberdeen Township Municipal Building is located on Church Street, just off Atlantic Avenue. The George Hausmann Senior Center is located at 30 Noble Place in the “N” section of Strathmore. Home Away From Home Academy is located on Route 34, just south of the Lloyd Road intersection.
