Cliffwood Man Charged for Selling Gun to Alleged Drug Dealer

Police say he did not have a permit to possess or to sell a handgun

A Cliffwood man is charged with allegedly selling a handgun to Dana Jackson, 40, of Aberdeen, who was arrested on Feb. 20 for allegedly being in possession of two guns, being in possession of heroin, intending to distribute heroin and for doing so within 1,000 feet of Matawan Regional High School.

Police say that Jackson purchased a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from Curtis Mitchell, 39, of Cliffwood on or about Jan. 17 in Keansburg.

Mitchell is charged with conspiring with another to possess and sell a handgun, knowingly selling a handgun without a permit to do so and knowingly possessing a firearm after being convicted in New Jersey for heroin distribution.

Mitchell made his initial court appearance Thursday, Mar. 1.

The charges do not indicate guilt or innocence, only that Mitchell may be indicted on the charges by a Grand Jury.
