NJ Transit has also established a round-trip ferry service between Hoboken Terminal and Pier 79 on West 39th Street in Midtown Manhattan with BillyBey Ferry. The round-trip ticket costs $10, Snyder explained. A ticketbooth is operating at Hoboken Terminal for this specific service. Customers using the Hoboken-Midtown ferry line can also access the NY Waterway shuttle buses for free.

There is no estimated restoration date for the NJ Transit rails. According to Snyder, the lines along the shore and in Morris County sustained extensive damage.

"We're working around the clock to restore the service," she said.

Aberdeen bus to Liberty State Park can also get you to Hoboken Terminal via light rail. NJ Transit doesn't tell you that!

NJTransit failed miserably on the contingency planning for NJCL riders to Hoboken. When I called NJTransit yesterday, they told me to take bus from PNC to downtown Manhattan then ferry to Hoboken. A colleague told me to go to Liberty State Park via bus from Aberdeen and then take light rail to Hoboken. Website does not show that route. Only bus to LSP then ferry to NYC. I guess they assume everyone knows there's is a light rail at liberty state park!

I've been taking this service so far this week and so far I have to commend NJ Transit (and as someone who wastes countless hours on their delays, it takes a lot to convince me to give them credit). In the morning and evening plenty of buses are waiting, they're on time and so far there's been no issues of any kind.

To those considering using this one think to take into account is that it may be considerably longer than the train. From Aberdeen-Matawan station it's been a little over 2 hours total from the train station to my office near New York Penn one way.

The free ferry takes you across to Battery Park. From there you can get on the 4 or 5 train at Bowling Green which will take you to Wall Street and you can transfer at Fulton for the 2 or 3 which bring you right into Penn Station (can also transfer to others that may be more direct for you depending on where you're going). The 1 train is normally down there as well but the South Ferry stop still isn't open yet so for now Bowling Green is your best bet.
