Boy identified as Ezra Cornman, 12, of Ocean Township

Funeral services were held this morning for the 12-year-old boy who died on Wednesday after a sand tunnel he and his brother were building collapsed on him.

The boy has been identified as Ezra Cornman of Ocean Township according to an obituary on the Dignity Memorial website.

Funeral services were held at Bloomfield Cooper, a Jewish chapel in Ocean Township at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Ezra is survived by his parents Stevie and Caroline and siblings Joey, David, Moshe, Norma, Jacob and Rachel.

The official cause of death has not been released at this time, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck.

Roebuck said a full autopsy was not going to be performed for "religious reasons."

Please parents lets be a little more responsible without having to create any more Laws and Rules and place unnecessary burdens on the life guards and staff. Sad Yes! My heart goes out to the entire family. But let us all just pay a little more attention to our own instead of everyone elses.

not the parents fault he's old enough to be alone in the sand.

he's my cousin and the lifeguards policewomen were by the funeral. Everything from g-d is good. Even though its hard to accept of course we have to put our effort...... his mission was over. RIP Ezra Cornman..

Digging a tunnel into sand sounds like a college hazing prank. This happened twenty something years ago in Monmouth County. Maybe kids should sit in front of XBox360 during their summer vacation, they wouldn't perish from sand suffication
