Aberdeen Police Officers Thanked for Dedication to Lloyd Road School
Two officers who are extensively involved in the upper elementary school were given a plaque Monday.
Aberdeen Township Police Officers Vito Turchiano, Jr. and Jeffrey Griffith are familiar faces to the many fourth and fifth grade students in the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District, who affectionately know the men as Officer Vito and Officer Jeff.
Lloyd Road School Principal Dr. Dionne Ledford thanked the officers and the entire police department for their dedication to the school at the board of education's Dec. 17 meeting.
"We are recognizing the both of you as representatives of the Aberdeen Township Police Department for your dedication and service to the students and staff of Lloyd Road School. Officer Vito and Officer Jeff are here this evening and they are a positive and consistent presence," Ledford said to the audience of students, teachers and parents.
Vito and Jeff run the D.A.R.E. program for the fourth and fifth graders at the upper elementary school and serve as role models to students while making them feel secure, Ledford explained.
"They were also a very active presence after Friday's incident and they have been consistent in their support and protection to ensure the safety and well-being of our school community," she said.
