Charity Volleyball Tournament to Benefit Restore the Bayshore
On March 8, 2013, beginning at 6:30 pm in the main gymnasium, the Matawan Regional HS student council will be hosting a charity volleyball tournament. The event will be a collaborative effort between the student council, Matawan PBA local #179, and the Aberdeen PBA local #163 to benefit Restore the Bayshore.
Admission will be $3 per person.
One of the evening’s highlights, aside from the spirited local competition between our neighborhood PBAs, high school staff, and students, will be the student council’s participation in Charity Champions, a fundraising competition sponsored by Power to Learn, an Optimum Education Initiative of Cablevision Systems Corporation. As part of this competition, Charity Champions will present Restore the Bayshore (RTB) with a $1000.00 check on behalf of the Matawan Regional student council.
Additionally, the MRHS student council will receive a $500.00 check as seed money for their fundraising efforts. A short presentation of the checks will precede the evening’s events, including a few words from state senators, assembly people, and Cablevision’s director of government affairs.
The volleyball tournament will follow the check presentations, with the winner being crowned as the undisputed volleyball champions of the Matawan and Aberdeen communities. All of the evening’s proceeds from the gate, along with those from a 50/50 raffle and RTB apparel sales, will benefit Restore the Bayshore, which focuses relief efforts on areas along the Raritan Bay that were severely damaged during Sandy. The charity was formed to assure that local donations would, in fact, be allocated locally.
